Some of the numbers are staggering. Record amounts of rain and its not over yet. Parts of texas have had more than 20 inches of rain this weekend. In wimberly, texas, this is one of the homes washed away. This six flags Amusement Park looked more like a water park. Tonight high winds in houston took the roof off an Apartment Building and a firefighter in oklahoma was swept away during a rescue and drowned we have a series of the reports tonight beginning with Omar Villafranca in wimberly. Torrential downpours have deluged central texas. Oh my god, oh my god. Reporter some areas have seen more than ten inches of rain in the last 24 hours. The storms have toppled trees, knocked out bridges and submerged cars. Swollen rivers, streams and creaks are running through communities that have already been pounded by weeks of rainfall. In hays county, the blanco river has risen to record levels causing significant damage to the towns of san marcos and wimberly. 1,000 homes have been damaged. 300
starting right now, the freeway will close at 11:00 p.m. all of this started when a driver crashed into utility pole cutting power to thousands of people. here s pictures of the down power lines. besides throwing people into the dark the crash also started a fire that threatened homes in the oakland hills. quite intense for some time. here s a map of the freeway closure. 5 80 eastbound is shutting down the seminary. westbound at golf link road and highway 13 shutting down at carson. we have temperature coverage on all of this for you tonight. thomas is live with the fire itself but we begin with amma live with the freeway closure. amma? reporter: yes dan. we took 5 80 east an got off at the edwards exit. that s where we are. we went up the hill where the fire was. and it provides us great vantage point over 5 80 and again sky 7 we have up as well so sky 7 hd can give you a live look at the entire stretch that s going to be shut down. it was supposed to happen at 9:00 o clock
colleagues have these remarks. i don t have a comment at this time. i m just glad our city is still moving forward in the right direction. today we met with the chairman and kwame brown said he would have a statement later teed or tomorrow about his intentions. i talked to some council members in that meeting. kwame brown told them behind closed doors he s resigning effective close of business today. it was an emotional meeting for some i m told. council member mary cheh will open a meeting wednesday for the council to vote on the replacement. vincent orange, phil mendelson, both democrat at large members are expected to compete for the job to replace kwame brown. can you remember a time where this council has had this many distractions? there s never been a time in the city s history we ve had this many distractions and it s not over. there s still that major investigation hanging over the city like a wet blanket of the mayor, his administration and their campaign.
