Three days after Thanksgiving, filmmaker Laura Poitras received a blandly chipper text signaling the end of her time with the media organization she co-founded and which she now says has betrayed its mission.
Hope all is well and you remain safe, Drew Wilson, the chief financial officer of First Look Media, wrote to Poitras. Do you have a few minutes tomorrow to catch up?
In their phone call the next day, Poitras says, she was fired - and she says it was in retaliation for speaking to the media about the organization s failure to protect a source who is now serving five years in prison for leaking confidential intelligence documents to one of First Look s publications, the Intercept. ....
