KUALA LUMPUR: A group of 20 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) today submitted a memorandum protesting against Hari Raya-themed online gambling advertisements to Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin.
The memorandum, which asks the government to take action against operators of illegal gambling, was handed over by Malaysian Muslim Consumers’ Association (PPIM) chief activist Datuk Nadzim Johan to Zahidi in his office at Angkasapuri here.
Zahidi said it was not easy to eradicate online gambling because the activity involved the use of international applications.
“Online gambling cannot be wiped out just like that because in our country whenever gambling and pornographic apps were erased, they would surface again,” he told reporters. ....

WITH his biker vest and stern face, you’d be forgiven for thinking he’s a character from the hit TV series about a violent biker gang, Sons of Anarchy. Well, Vince Focarelli is really a member of a gang – only his “gang” comprises Muslim NGO Sahaba MC (motorcycle club).
Instead of running drugs or committing murder, Focarelli’s MC is spreading a message of peace and love among citizens of the world while battling Islamophobia. The patches on his vest represent a brotherhood, not a gang of criminals, he says.

Groups welcome move to expand plans for Covid-19

Safeguard: While the move by insurance firms has been welcomed, consumers are advised to read the terms and conditions carefully.
PETALING JAYA: The move to expand insurance coverage for Covid-19, including any side effect from vaccination, will make the public have more confidence in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, say consumer groups.
Welcoming the move, consumer activist Muhammad Sha’ani Abdullah called it an “added confidence boost” to the programme.
“Those who will be (suffering from such side effects) and benefiting from these plans are considered small compared to the rest of the population.
“It is better if the insurance companies can extend their coverage ....
