Malaysians Have Launched A Petition To Save Convent Bukit Nanas From Redevelopment | Kaw


 
SMK Convent Bukit Nanas is one of the longest-existing schools in Malaysia and has become a well-known landmark in Kuala Lumpur.
 
The school, established in 1899 is full of irreplaceable history and has helped birthed thousands of successful students across the decades is now on the verge of being demolished.
Let s help save CBN
Malaysians and the school’s alumni have banded together to launch a petition to help save the century-old institution as many have learned that its lease will be expiring on 6 September 2021.

PETALING JAYA: I would like to meet with the Convent Bukit Nanas (CBN) Sisters to find out what I can do to help preserve the school, says Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
The Federal Territories Minister said the issue of the iconic all-girls school was never referred to him and he has been trying to get more information on the matter.
I personally think that CBN should not be touched and should be allowed to continue operating.
Land ownership issues are something that we can discuss. I would like to meet the CBN Sisters and lend an ear to find out more. ....

Why Are Malaysians Trying To Save Convent Bukit Nanas?


Malaysians banned together to liberate the century-old Convent Bukit Nanas (CBN) school in Kuala Lumpur.
An online petition to “Save SMK Convent Bukit Nanas” began with news of the government’s refusal to extend the school’s land lease – which expires on 6 September 2021 – to the school’s administration run by the Lady Superior of the Society of Saint Maur convent.

With the school board challenging the Federal Government’s decision in court, many like former minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, who herself is a CBN alumnus, request that the historic institution, which celebrated its 120th birthday in 2019, be honoured as a national heritage site. ....

Bukit Nanas Convent land lease not renewed to ensure it becomes fully-aided government school, says FT Land and Mines director


KUALA LUMPUR: The iconic Bukit Nanas Convent (CBN) will not be demolished once its lease expires and the land it sits on will revert to the government so it can be gazetted as a fully-aided government school, says the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office (PPTGWP).
Its director Datuk Muhammad Yasir said the government s decision not to renew CBN s lease was to ensure that the iconic school becomes a fully-aided government school, which would enable it to receive all the benefits it needs for the future.
Right now, CBN is partially aided and it is a very old school. It will benefit more if it was made a fully-aided government institution, Yasir added. ....
