David Cameron s former advisor Lex Greensill did, in fact, have a contract while working inside the UK government, the Cabinet Secretary has said.
Simon Case had previously suggested that Greensill was not a contracted employee.
However, he now says he has seen appointment letters that suggest some form of contract was drawn up.
Greensill s role as an unpaid advisor is at the centre of inquiries into lobbying by the former Prime Minister. ....

David Cameron will next week be put under the spotlight to answer hugely uncomfortable questions over his lobbying of chancellor Rishi Sunak and HM Treasury perm sec Sir Tom Scholar on behalf of failed financial firm Greensill Capital.
Members of the Treasury Select Committee are running one of three parliamentary probes into the firm’s activities and its access to government ahead of its collapse into administration earlier this year.
Today the committee said it would be taking evidence from Cameron, who was prime minister from 2010 to 2016, and then worked for Greensill from 2018, on Thursday 13 May. It will subject Lex Greensill to a grilling two days earlier. ....

Financier Lex Greensill s appointment to a role in Downing Street was a screaming, glaring conflict of interest , a top Whitehall official admitted yesterday.
Mr Greensill was given a pass and security clearance to enter No 10 when he was advising David Cameron s government.
He had Downing Street business cards calling himself a senior adviser , but officials have been unable to find a job contract for him.

Cabinet secretary Simon Case said he is alarmed Australian businessman Lex Greensill had a Downing Street pass but no official job contract, and it is unknown what he was doing there.
Greensill, who wrote on his own business card that he was senior adviser, PM s Office , was granted a security pass under then-prime minister David Cameron, which was signed off by former minister Francis Maude and former permanent secretary at the Cabinet Office Ian Watmore.  ....

A senior Cabinet Office official has admitted that Lex Greensill’s appointment to a role in Downing Street was a “screaming, glaring conflict of interest”.
Darren Tierney, director general of propriety and ethics in the Cabinet Office, told the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC) that the Australian financier’s exact role as an adviser was “unclear”.
Links between Greensill Capital, a firm which was founded by the financier, the Government and David Cameron have come under scrutiny amid controversy over the former prime minister’s lobbying on behalf of the firm.
The disclosures over Mr Cameron’s lobbying activities on behalf of Greensill – including sending texts to Chancellor Rishi Sunak – led to Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordering a review by the senior lawyer Nigel Boardman. ....
