And i heard the commotion coming out of the control room dewey phillips, i went in there and sam phillips, founder of sun records walked in with a recording he had just made that afternoon. but crown electric truck driver named elvis presley. he wanted to test it on dewey s show. dewey had 65% of the audience from 9 to midnight. if he played a record it could become a hit overnight. played it once, he played it twice. switch board lit up. he played it seven times in a row. i was the one designated to call mr. and mrs. presley to find out where elvis was because dewey wanted him to come down to the station. i called and mrs. presley, they were listening very excited she said well, he was so nervous about being on the show and having his record played that he went to see a double feature western. so they got in their truck, went over and walked up and down the dark aisle. here is elvis all by himself. they whispered about the excitement created by the record came down to the station. i m ....
