The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee today announced phase one priorities for the USOPC College Sports Sustainability Think Tank, which includes three concepts focused on sport sustainability, sport structure and vertical partnerships. The concepts were generated through three working groups, which convened during the fall of 2020 and were chaired by Greg Byrne, University of Alabama director of athletics, Chris Plonsky, University of Texas chief of staff and executive senior associate athletics director, and Rob Mullens, University of Oregon athletic director.

USOPC chair: Russia decision angered and disappointed people

The chair of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee said the recent decision to reduce doping punishments against Russia “really angered and disappointed many people, including ourselves.”
The statement Monday from Susanne Lyons was part of a newly concentrated effort by the federation to speak up about what it deems a global anti-doping system that it says is not fully protecting clean athletes.
The USOPC board of directors approved a policy at its meeting last week to become a more involved voice in the anti-doping debate.
“We hold concerns that the current status quo deeply threatens the short and long-term prospects of athletes and the Olympic and Paralympic Movements as a whole,” the statement read. ....

Following the conclusion of elections among elite fencers, two-time Vincentian-American Fencing Olympian and East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York resident Nzingha Prescod, has been selected to serve as an athlete director on the USA Fencing Board of Directors, beginning on Jan. 1, 2021.
USA Fencing said Prescod, 28, whose mother is Vincentian lawyer Marva Prescod, a Kingstown native, was elected with 2012 Paralympian Cat Bouwkamp, of Fishers, Ind.
In August, the USA Fencing Board of Directors voted to amend its bylaws to increase the level of athlete representation on the Board from 20 percent to 33 percent. ....
