thank you for having me and this is a great venue. i suspect the first time book tv has ever done one from an airplane hangar. this is my 10th book tv. it s one that is closest to my heart for a variety of reasons. let me start with background and many of you know, on july 17th, 1996, at 1819 p.m., twa flight 800 left jfk airport in new york bound for paris. 12 minutes later, 8:31 p.m. off the coast of long island, popular shore of long island, it was blown out of the sky. 230 people were killed, 53 of them were twa employees. many of you in this room knew at least some of those people. there is a memorial in their honor here at the twa museum and if i were coming here just to spread some conspiracy theory, i would be dishonoring their memory and i would be insulting you. instead, i m here to tell you what happened on the night of july 17th, 1996, in the nights and days and months and years thereafter. there are people in this room who know a whole lot more about avia ....

a fascinating story of courage and excellent study of the struggle of individuals to act morally and honorably. we are so pleased to welcome the author to harvard bookstore today. please join me in welcoming comment danny orbach. good evening everyone. first of all, thank you for coming. thank you for coming to hear about this new book. my talk this evening, first of all what this book is about generally. in this specific episode from the boat, maybe read a few messages. and finally, i m going to zoom in on one particularly interesting aspect, here in the plot against hitler of revolutionary charisma. first of all, what this book is about, this book is about a secret underground organization, from 1938-1944. it was an elite organization. its members are military officers, high civil servants come in diplomats, theologians, labor leaders, mostly from conservative rights, but also the sociodemographic left. it is a very authoritarian screw, but they were all united in ....
i wanted to work on the rise of national socialism and then i encountered the story of the resistance. the william shire rise and fall of such books. [inaudible] i wanted to write my own history. but i still ask myself the same question they mismanaged the 16th. but they have managed it any better? i still wonder. was that at the end of it the german resisted or how was the german resistance discovered and became to an end? after the bomb exploded in july 1944, the military leader staged a coup d état. they gave orders to people throughout germany. so they came into the opening period theater conspirator reached in one case a diary that they were able to find. the diaries usually included i m a very clumsy. my favorite example through as a conspirator, he was the chief of police, had the village. so i diaries he consistently mentions dart down. certainly it was not difficult to find them in very few ways that do survive. that is one of the reasons we know so much a ....
