Portland, OR   An Oregon man is facing federal charges for fraudulently converting to personal use loans intended to help small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. David Unitan, aka Danny Cohen, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, has been charged by criminal complaint with aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, and money laundering.
Unitan took advantage of economic relief programs administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA) through Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) and the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), as authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Clackamas County Sheriff s deputies and federal agents arrested Lake Oswego resident David Unitan at his home Dec. 22 after an arrest warrant was issued by the federal district court for charges of COVID-19 relief fraud.
The Department of Justice announced Dec. 22 that the 46-year-old man has been charged with aggravated identity theft, wire fraud and money laundering.
Unitan is one of two Oregon men facing federal charges for fraudulently using COVID-19 relief loans for personal expenditures. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, those loans were intended to help small businesses.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) In separate criminal cases, two Oregon men are facing federal charges for fraudulently converting to their personal use loans intended to help small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, announced U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams.
David Unitan, aka Danny Cohen, 46, of Lake Oswego, has been charged by criminal complaint with aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, and money laundering. Jeremy Clawson, 30, of Baker City, has been charged by criminal complaint with theft of government property.
