BOARDMAN A new outdoor activity at Boardman Glenwood Junior High is open for the public, thanks to teachers getting a grant.
Tim Harker, a technology teacher, and science teacher Eric Diefenderfer assembled a team of teachers, administrators and maintenance staff that built the Spartan Disc Golf Course at the school over spring break.
The team won a $2,700 national grant from the GPD Employees Foundation. The foundation, established in 2014, aids in channeling donations that will enrich the K-12 public education experience
“It was truly a group effort,” Harker said. “We all had input to earn the grant.”
Physical education teachers researched the equipment needed, while science teachers helped build and plan for the course. Mike Shevock, music teacher, and Principal Bart Smith showed up to dig and build. ....

Fund helps 11 Boardman teachers on tech access | News, Sports, Jobs

BOARDMAN The Boardman Schools Fund for Educational Excellence has awarded 11 teacher grants for the 2020-21 school year worth more than $5,000.
The cap on the projects was $500 this year in hopes of reaching more teachers and grade levels. A total 17 teachers were awarded money, some working together on group ideas.
Wireless microphones, projectors, Chromebook charging equipment and digital reader pens are among items to help meet the growing technology needs of students. Other projects include weights, and assorted equipment for physical education and athletic needs. The grants also provided for trail cameras for middle schoolers and science activity STEM kits as well as manipulatives for hands-on exploration in the elementary grades. ....
