A CELEBRATION of Mozart at his most cheerful greeted patrons of the Canberra International Music Festival in “Greatest Mozart I”, the first of two such concerts in the festival linked to the festival theme, “The Idea of Vienna”.
To be sure, one of the three works played wasn’t actually Mozart, but there was method in the programming of this concert, in which soloists and musicians from the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra performed three major key works that gave insights into the way Mozart worked.

PROVING their ability to work across chamber music platforms, The Australian Haydn Ensemble (AHE) as a string quartet showed just how good they are in any form.
The players in AHE were Skye McIntosh, violin, Matthew Greco, violin, Karina Schmitz, viola, Daniel Yeadon, cello.
The longer I live, and the more music I hear, I become further convinced that the string quartet offers the greatest musical experience.
AHE began with the lively and complex “String Quartet in G Minor, Ben. 339″ by Ignaz Joseph Pleyel. This had a fine tune running through the first movement. Listening to this while sitting in the gallery above the main audience, the music seemed to be directly pointed at me, making this a more intimate and powerful experience.

A few months back, this space focused on Theatre 444’s production of “Daddy Longlegs,” a two-actor musical that was fully staged in mid-November in the Waterloo Library and Historical Society’s Fatzinger Hall, live-streamed for ticket-buyers to watch from home.
