you can see right there where there s, yeah, there s five shots. he was trying to kill them. among those killed in the rampage, dantzler s daughter and his ex-girlfriend. tragedy struck at a texas rangers baseball game and we รง must warn you the pictures are graphic. a fan fell 20 feet to his death while reaching for a ball tossed into the stands by a player. the man caught the ball and lost his balance as another fan tried unsuccessfully to save him. the victim s young son witnessed the whole thing. this is the second fatal fall at a major league baseball park this season. just t horrific. tough to see. that s awful. after spending nearly three years behind bars awaiting trial in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, casey anthony will go free one week from sunday on july 17th. and the release date may seem quick but legally speaking the judge threw the book at her. diana alvear is in orlando with the latest. good morning, diana. good morning.peggy and daniel, what a di
karen travers is joining us from washington with more. good morning, karen. reporter: good morning, peggy. good morning, daniel. the work continues and the clock keeps ticking. yesterday s nearly two-hour meeting at the white house didn t produce a deal. but afterwards the president and speaker boehner both said it was constructive. but nothing is agreed to until everything s agreed to. and the parties are still far apart on a wide range of issues. reporter: the president and speaker boehner have been discussing a plan that would cut $4 trillion over the next 10 to 12 years. but both parties would need to make significant concessions. everybody acknowledged that there s going to be pain involved politically on all sides. reporter: for republicans, that could be agreeing to close big tax loopholes and reduce some tax deductions in order to increase revenue. comprehensive tax reform, both on a corporate side and personal side, would make america more competitive. reporter
this morning on world news now, fatal rampage. two murder scenes, a police pursuit, and a hostage situation gripped grand rapids, michigan, for hours. police say the gunman killed seven people before taking his own life. it s friday, july 8th. from abc news, this is world news now. good morning, i m daniel sieberg in for rob nelson. i m peggy bunker. the ordeal in grand rapids began in the afternoon and the strange events did not end until midnight, scaring people all across town. eight people including the gunman and two children are now dead. clearly a stressful situation for people living in that neighborhood, not knowing what s going on. this lasted for hours. it s really terrible to hear these stories and report on them. the gunman is dead which some people say maybe is the best ending for that. at least there s some relief
this morning on world news now, atlantis anticipation. the final space shuttle launch is scheduled for later this morning. but all eyes are on the skies and also the forecast as spectators show up for the historic blastoff. it is friday, july 8th. from abc news, this is world news now. good morning. i m daniel sieberg, in for rob nelson. i m peggy bunker. astronauts and crowds of spectators have been keyed up for the big launch today. but yesterday mother nature may have given everybody a preview of a not so welcome coming attraction at cape canaveral. which could mean that they ll have to wait a little bit longer. we hope not. it would be nice to see everything go according to plan but often it doesn t. the weather means whether or not they will go up. there were lightning strikes near the launch pad.
