Burlington City looking for developer for potential $2 million project

BURLINGTON CITY  The former New Jersey National Guard Armory building could transform into new apartments, new businesses, or perhaps even a new gym for recreational sports like basketball, according to Mayor Barry Conaway.  City officials are not picky, Conaway added. They just want a developer who will focus on the community and get the old, unoccupied building on the tax rolls. The city is hoping to receive applications for the purchase and reuse of the property at 559 High Street. If it does, Conaway and a few other officials are going to score them and hand off the scores to the common council.

Local officials in South Jersey want teachers to be vaccine priority

Teachers should be fast-tracked for coronavirus vaccines, some South Jersey officials argue. In recent days, officials from Burlington and Cumberland counties have called for the state to move teachers and other school staff members into Phase 1A of the vaccine rollout, which includes other essential worker groups like healthcare employees, police officers and firefighters, among others. The Camden County Board of Commissioners also released a statement calling for teachers to be vaccinated as soon as possible.   Educators and other school employees are currently part of Phase 1B of the vaccination rollout, according to the state plan. But some original Phase 1B groups, like police officers and emergency medical services workers, have been deemed eligible for shots in recent weeks.
