MGN Online
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Supporters of raising Missouri s gas tax are praising the House vote to approve incremental increases in the tax over the next five years.
The bill now heads to Gov. Mike Parson s desk.
Daniel Mehan, president of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, said this will be the first transportation funding increase in Missouri since the 1990s if Parson signs the bill. He said passing the bill is a big step toward ensuring Missouri remains a leading transportation hub in the Midwest.
If you re rebuilding a mile of road, think about how much more that costs today versus 1995, Mehan said. He said the bill will also have a $1.8 billion positive impact on the economy and create more than 17,000 jobs annually. ....

Dr. Chen said he couldn t be sued for the wrong site surgery because “Dr. Chen is immune from liability for the alleged acts or omissions pursuant to the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (PREP Act)”.
The
Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness act was activated in March 2020.
The emergency measures give legal immunity to health care providers who are working to stop the spread of COVID-19 by using approved countermeasures.
“Obviously, we are not claiming that COVID had anything to do with the fact that Dr. Chen operated on the incorrect side of Natalie s spine,” said Morgan Murphy, Avilez’s attorney. “It is a fairly straightforward situation. A doctor should never perform the incorrect surgery, period.” ....

The Missouri Senate, seen here in finishing up work on the state budget in May, has decided to postpone the special legislative session until after the Thanksgiving holiday due to positive cases of the coronavirus.
There were not enough votes to tack on an emergency clause that would have allowed the legislation to go into effect immediately.
The Missouri Senate approved one of Gov. Mike Parson’s top priorities on Tuesday, offering protections to businesses from lawsuits related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But the super-majority Republican chamber did not have enough votes to tack on an emergency clause that would have allowed the legislation to go into effect immediately. If the proposal makes it through the House and is signed by Parson, it won’t become law until Aug. 28, which is after most will have likely already received their coronavirus vaccine. ....
