good morning, everyone. day 38 of the oil spill. and we just cannot stop watching that live video feed, looking for any sign that bp s so-called top kill maneuver is working. no word or we don t know yet if it s going to stop the leak. by conservative estimates, at least 7 million gallons of oil have spilled into the gulf and affected some 100 miles of the louisiana coastline. that slick continues to grow and grow. it s the size of the state of south carolina. here s how the top kill procedure is supposed to work. a giant ship filled with a kind of sludge and drilling mud, enough to fill three olympic swimming pools is being pumped through a pipe at eight barrels a second. it s forced into the tubes into that failed blowout preventer. it s hoped that the hole can slow or stop the leak. and then, the hole can be plugged with cement. this is so difficult. listen to what one expert said. it s like brain surgery using robots under a mile of water, with power inside it. ....
