This was the scene overnight, when flames spread rapidly, forcing some people to jump into the sea to escape. Daylight revealed devastation, with multiple areas burnt to the ground and the western side of the island almost cut off. Hawaii is said to be facing the largest Natural Disaster in its history, after wildfires ripped through the land and destroyed most of the beach front town of lahaina. At least 55 people are known to have died but many are still missing. Just look at how the landscape has been ravaged. Whole roads and neighbourhoods have been blackened and flattened as hurricane strength winds fanned the deadly flames. The blaze ripped through the town so quickly that some people jumped into the harbour to escape the flames and smoke. Heres our North America Correspondentjohn Sudworth reporting from maui. The government says it is a temporary measure, and the news comes as the latest figures showed more than 750 people crossing the channel in small boats yesterday, the highest daily number so far this year. Well, we have spoken to one of the 39 Asylum Seekers and he was still on board this afternoon, he, but the occupants had been told not to use Running Water for washing or showering, he spoke of his own concern, he said a number of the migrants have said they had got sore throats, he himself said he had breathing difficulties, the home office insists that none of on board have shown the symptoms of Legionnaires Disease but make no mistake this is a serious embarrassment for the government
