IOM Yemen - Marib Response (29 March 2021) Format Situation Overview The humanitarian situation in Ma’rib continues to be of concern, and while there have been various waves of conflict, the situation has shown no sign of improving. People’s lives continue to be impacted every day by fighting and thousands are being displaced from their homes and from internally displaced persons (IDPs) sites. The hostilities, which have escalated at various points since January 2020, have displaced close to 21,000 households (HHs). Of these, at least 2,622 HHs (18,354 people) have been displaced since 08 February 2021 alone because of the intensified hostilities in parts of western, northern and southern Ma’rib1 . People, many of whom were already IDPs in these areas, have for the most part moved to Arak and more recently to Kasarah, both areas in Sirwah district.

Women and children represent over 79 percent of the total displaced people in Marib, read the report issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on Tuesday. Most displaced families (90 percent) live in extreme poverty on less than $1.4 per day, it said, noting that most of them resort to harmful coping mechanisms.

Since the first major offensive in January 2020, the conflict has forced more than 21,000 households (HHs) out of their homes or displacement sites. Of these, at least 1,532 HHs (11,000 people) have been displaced since 08 February 2021 because of the intensified hostilities in parts of western, northern and southern Ma’rib , mainly moving closer to Arak in Sirwah (983 HHs), with smaller numbers into Ma’rib city (482 HHs) and Ma’rib Al Wadi (63 HHs) districts.

Yemen: Ma rib Situation Update No. 2, 12 March 2021 [EN/AR] Format SITUATION OVERVIEW Armed confrontations, which erupted in several districts of Ma’rib in the first week of February 2021, have continued unabated, especially in western and northern parts of the governorate. This has led to the displacement of at least 1,532 families (about 11,000 people), according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Many of those displaced are from Sirwah District – which has continued to see some of the heaviest fighting – with some having to flee displacement sites as fighting drew near, displacing them anew. A majority of internally displaced persons (IDPs) reported being displaced for the third or fourth time.
