FREMONT - Multiple sclerosis (MS) hits Dana Roca like a ton of bricks some days. That s how she describes the fatigue, hand tremors and joint pain that makes it difficult to stand up or walk most of the time. Roca, 62, of Fremont has lived with MS for more than a decade and is an advocate for other people living with her condition. She organized her own Walk MS event Saturday around her Port Clinton Road neighborhood to raise awareness and money for her condition, which affects nearly 1 million people in the United States. Aided by a walker and the emotional support of a dozen friends and family members, Roca made it about a mile around her block. ....

Kids will learn about Maslenitsa, a weeklong Russian festival celebrating the end of winter and welcoming the sun for spring. Participants can stop by between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. The program is open-house style, and admission is free. Second Saturdays R 4 Kids activities focus on Col. Webb Hayes’ travels around the world.
