City serves up some relief for pandemic-hurting bars, businesses

Jacksonville City Council is waiving liquor license fees for some pandemic-strapped businesses in the city.
Bowling alleys, the Morgan County Fairgrounds, golf courses, banquet halls and bars on the downtown plaza will have six months’ relief from the annual fee.
Mayor Andy Ezard said the fees bring in about $90,000 annually.
“This is something myself and the aldermen thought was appropriate,” Ezard said.
The relief comes as pandemic restrictions severely limit the customer base for many bars and restaurants. Under current regulations, they are restricted to outdoor, drive-through and pickup service. ....
