Liberal's J. Brooks Kappelmann is a first team all state baseball player. The Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches tabbed Kappelmann 1st team all state in 6A as a middle infielder. Kappelmann played shortstop for the 13-11 Redskins this spring. He hit .465 with seven doubles, six triples, 23 RBI's, 28 runs, and nine stolen bases.

Cheektowaga Police Officer Troy Blackhief was in position to attempt to stop the stolen vehicles with a Stop Stick. One of the vehicles hit him and was transported to ECMC and is in critical condition. Blackchief needed extensive surgery.
