A heavy-duty hacksaw, meat cleaver, knuckledusters, drug scales, a homemade bong, knives, and methamphetamine are just some of the items people have tried to take into the Tauranga Courthouse. Information released under the Official Information Act has revealed the disturbing items security officers have confiscated from visitors to the courthouse over the past year.
And a lawyer who deals with defendants, offenders and those attending court to support them says he is not surprised at what was found, saying some people live in a drug world where they don t recognise it is wrong to carry such items.

Information released under the Official Information Act has revealed the disturbing items security officers have confiscated off visitors to the courthouse over the past year.
Lawyers dealing with defendants, offenders and those attending court to support them aren t surprised at what was found, saying some people live in a drug world where they don t recognise it is wrong to carry such items.
“We are sincerely sorry we could not find this information to satisfy your request and I assure you that this is a very unusual occurrence,” the letter said. Valler said the misplaced file was just one of the mistakes made with her case, and she wants an apology for the way it was handled in the 1990s.
