Waiting is just not their style. When COVID-19 upended life in North Texas more than a year ago, many in the nonprofit world knew they had to quickly change how they fulfilled their missions. They also had to create new ones to rise to the challenges of the moment.
Whether it was creating a path for entrepreneurs, finding a way to help furloughed hospitality workers while feeding the hungry or organizing the resources to help the Latino community, these North Texans shifted gears for good.

If approved by voters on May 1, Dallas could be the 2nd major city to change its city charter to remove ‘qualified voters’ requirement.

A year ago, it would have been impossible for Edith Rodriguez to serve on a Dallas city advisory board.
While she’s lived here for a decade as a legal permanent resident, she could not participate on any of Dallas’ more than 50 city boards and commissions because she is not a U.S. citizen and can’t vote. City code and charter barred her and thousands of others like her from serving because she was not a registered voter. ....
