It didn’t take St. Thomas long to take to Lake Margaret like, well, the proverbial duck to water.
Just a few days after city council voted May 10 to open the lake to non-motorized boating and fishing, increased recreational use of the flooded, former gravel pit is obvious. Geez, there even was someone swimming on Sunday evening!

Pals Kole Babcock and Tom Grignard were launching one-person kayaks Tuesday this week for a second time on the lake since the council vote, a split decision over concerns how Lake Margaret and surrounding homes might be affected. (Council earlier had rejected spending $50,000 on an environmental study whether to open the lake in response to public demand, but Coun. Gary Clarke brought the issue back, saying the water is a recreational asset to the city.)
