Estevan fire chief and deputy chief partake in provincial conference

After a few special meetings and a presentation by guest speaker Frank Schroder of the Calgary Fire Department, the conference opened on Friday evening. The conference goes hand in hand with a trade show, where fire chiefs can find anything that might be needed in their jobs.
Typically what we have in the real environment and that we brought in a virtual setting for this year is what s called the trade show. So in a normal setting, we re going out to a very large area, and looking at fire trucks, internal gear, and other safety equipment, everything that pertains to the fire service. With this year s venue we had tiles from these vendors so that people could just click on it if they had questions and there was a little question and answer session for specific vendors, Feser explained. ....

Fire crews battled two grass fires over several hours

Estevan Fire Chief Dale Feser thanked people who partook in battling the fire.
This particular fire s cause was possibly careless discarding of smoking material out of a window of a vehicle, as it occurred right in a roadway easement and spread into a field, Feser said.
We want to remind people, anytime that you are using any kind of a smoking material to properly extinguish the cigarette butts or whatever else it may be into an ashtray or some sort of vessel or device to contain them.
Shortly after crews returned to the station, a report of another fire came in. Firefighters responded to a large wildland fire occurring south of Hirsch. The Bienfait Fire Department was the first to respond to the emergency, but due to its scale, they requested mutual aid assistance. ....

Fire crews battled wildland fire north of Estevan on the weekend

Crews did arrive on scene to find a fairly sizable wildland fire that was occurring. We had a lot of the landowners that were already in the area, trying to extinguish the fire with brooms and shovels, said Estevan Fire Chief Dale Feser.
Firefighters were informed that there were some oil wells on the property that were being threatened by the fire. The first arriving truck was assigned to fire suppression around the well sites.
The fire became even more complicated when the wind suddenly changed directions and the fire started threatening a home and a shop.
The remaining crews that came into play were immediately put onto the south flank, or the leading edge of the fire to extinguish the fire, (and to prevent it) from trying to take out the properties that were in close proximity. The fire did burn fairly close to some of these, upwards of 20 feet to the actual property itself, but crews are able to suppress without incident or loss of property, Feser said. ....

Electrical heater burned down an oilfield trailer

Crews responded with one engine. We arrived on scene to begin suppression operations. There were a few hazards that we had to take into considerations, as it was a worksite, said Estevan Fire Chief Dale Feser.
The structure turned out to be a double occupancy office-type oilfield trailer, and propane tanks were attached to it. Firefighters were able to safely cool down the tanks preventing them from exploding.
Once that was done, fire crews could proceed with suppressing the trailer fire.
When we arrived on the scene the building itself was already a complete loss, Feser said.
After the fire was brought under control, firefighters switched to checking the area to ensure there were no other small hotspots remaining. ....
