When I was a young man, a great weekend would involve being with my girlfriend, playing softball with good friends and enjoying a few cold beverages. Ontario Teachers' investing in Finland utility, Caisse in Brazil telecommunications

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is acquiring a 40 per cent stake in Caruna, Finland’s largest electricity supplier.
The pension will acquire a 20 per cent stake in the utility from First Sentier Investors and in a separate transaction, the Ontario Teachers’ and investment firm KKR & Co. Inc. will jointly acquire a 40 per cent holding from the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System. Upon closing, the Ontario Teachers’ and KKR will each own 40 per cent of Caruna, according to a press release.
“The electrification of society and the increase of renewable energy production – key elements of Finland’s decarbonization plans – require a strong and smart electricity network,” said Dale Burgess, senior managing director of infrastructure and natural resources at the Ontario Teachers’, in the release. “We’re convinced that Caruna is well-placed to build a smart and weatherproof electricity network for its customers that will meet growi ....

Ontario Teachers, KKR take major stake in Finnish electricity firm Caruna

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, KKR and Swedish pension fund AMF Pension have become new shareholders in Finland’s largest electricity company, alongside Finnish pension insurance company Elo.
Ontario Teachers and KKR have each bought a 20% stake in Caruna from First Sentier Investors and AMF has bought Keva’s 12.5% stake in the electricity distributor.
Ontario Teachers and KKR have also agreed to buy a further 40% stake in Caruna from Canadian pension fund OMERS, in a deal that will increase their ownership to 40% each. KKR is making the investment through its core infrastructure strategy. Elo will have a 7.5% interest in Caruna. ....

IFM Investors and Ontario Teachers Pension Plan Board jointly acquire Canadian district energy operations owned by Enwave Energy Corporation

IFM Investors and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (“Ontario Teachers”) are pleased to announce that they have entered into a definitive agreement with Brookfield Infrastructure (NYSE: BIP; TSX: BIP.UN) to jointly acquire a 100% interest in the Canadian district energy operations owned by Enwave Energy Corporation (“Enwave”) for C$2.8 billion on an enterprise value basis. IFM Investors and Ontario Teachers’ will retain the Enwave brand as part of this transaction and each will own 50% of the company.
Enwave is a fully integrated district energy business that provides innovative, sustainable district cooling and heating solutions to over 320 customers across a range of sectors in Canada. Spanning Toronto, London, Windsor and Charlottetown, Enwave’s distribution network is well diversified across services and customers. ....
