One of the six co-defendants in an upcoming Nevada County murder trial was arrested Monday for violating the terms of his pretrial release, and will remain in custody until his trial. Dakari Mondell Harris, 22, currently living in Dallas, Texas, has pleaded not guilty to criminal conspiracy charges connected with the shooting death of 36-year-old Shanta Olsen. Harris was taken into custody Monday evening by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, after having been ordered to appear in Nevada County to face allegations that he had violated the terms of his pretrial release. On Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Robert Tice-Raskin ordered that Harris remain jailed until trial due to numerous violations, after hearing evidence that afternoon from the Nevada County Probation Department that Harris was not compliant with the previously specified conditions. ....
Two of six men facing charges related to the alleged murder of Shanta Olsen were taken into custody Wednesday, while two other defendants were allowed to remain out on bail. Ronney Turner, 31, and Devon Deontae Jennings, 21, were taken to Nevada County jail after Judge Robert Tice-Raskin set their bond status to no bail, both defendant’s attorneys confirmed, meaning that both men will remain in custody until they stand trial. Dakari Mondell Harris, 22, and William Rynell Levise, 31, also charged in the case, were both allowed to remain out of custody and return home until trial, under pretrial release conditions specified at Wednesday’s hearing. ....
The six men, five of whom are from Dallas, Texas, were arrested in November 2020 for the fatal shooting of Olsen, a Nevada County woman authorities say was shot in the head after a drug deal gone wrong. They have now all been charged with one conspiracy count of transporting marijuana, one count of theft with false pretenses, and are being collectively charged with discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle, according to the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office. Gang enhancement charges have also been attached to the marijuana and theft charges, court documents show. The defendants named in the grand jury’s indictment are Dakari Mondell Harris, 22, of Shreveport, Louisiana; Trey Rondal Richard, 23; Devon Deontae Jennings, 21; William Rynell Levise, 31; Ronney Turner, 31; and Laderrick Timothy Wynn, 20.
