For the first time, an asbestos-ban bill in Congress may have the sponsorship of a Republican senator — Montana s Steve Daines — signaling improved chances of passage.
Before she went to her Capitol Hill office Wednesday, Katie Schoettler had a thought about the hours ahead: “I knew then it was going to be a crazy day.”
“It’s a really sad and dark day in history,” said Schoettler, the communications director for U.S. Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont.
Schoettler, who graduated Paxon School for Advanced Studies and Florida State University, spent a lot of that day on lockdown, but it started well enough.
Her boss had objections to accepting electoral college votes from Arizona, and she had helped him prepare remarks before they both headed to the Capitol through an underground train that connects the legislative chambers of Congress to the office buildings surrounding it.
