Some 60 faithful braved torrential rains to ring in Christmas with a midnight Mass at St. Cyprian Parish in Philadelphia’s Cobbs Creek neighborhood.

Amid pandemic and social unrest, the birth of Jesus heals divided communities, said a West Philadelphia priest.
During his homily for Dec. 24 midnight Mass, Msgr. Federico Britto, pastor of St. Cyprian Parish in the city’s Cobbs Creek section, described Christmas as a “miracle” that “gathers us all together in a great new burst of fellowship in the name of Christ.” ....

A West Philadelphia parish is leading the way in making Christmas amid COVID brighter for local families.
Earlier this week, staff and volunteers from St. Cyprian Parish in Philadelphia began distributing bags of wrapped gifts for all ages, including shirts, slacks, pajamas, winter socks, hair ornaments, designer-label children’s clothing – and even a candy-apple-red BMX bicycle. ....

Young adults share faith, cultural gifts at Mass in Elkins Park

Rejoicing, revival and renewal these themes celebrated by the worldwide church on Gaudete Sunday were especially evident at a Mass for young adults Sunday, Dec. 13 at St. James Church, Elkins Park.
The celebration was the third in a series of pilgrimage Masses sponsored by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Office for Pastoral Care for Migrants and Refugees (PCMR) and coordinated by the office’s director, Assumption Sister Gertude Borres, and her enthusiastic team of PCMR young adult leaders representing multicultural Catholic communities throughout the archdiocese.
They include Williamina Lebaga, representing Cameroon; Taurean Whitfield and Imani Scutt, representing African Americans; Melissa and Yoline Scutt (Haiti); Dale Tan (Philippines) and Angela Dakyung Kim (Korea). ....
