Espanola CAO leaving her position

Espanola’s Chief Administrative Officer and Treasurer, Cynthia Townsend is leaving her position.
Espanola Mayor Jill Beer says Townsend will be leaving on March 19th.
Beer says Townsend has made a significant contribution and impact as the town’s CAO over the past 10 years including outstanding leadership and vision through some difficult and challenging times.
Beer adds recruitment is now underway to fill the vacancy to lead the community through its next phase of growth.
Townsend took the town through several projects during her 10-year tenure including upgrades to the water system, improvements to Highway Six, sewer/water and road replacement throughout parts of the town and keeping the budgets well within two percentage points on average per year. ....

Espanola latest municipality hit with large insurance increase

Espanola is the latest municipality that will see a substantial increase in its insurance.
Last night council voted in favour of an agreement between Municipal Insurance Service and the town for insurance, but with a caveat.

League suspended from access to Espanola Recreation Centre

An Espanola hockey league that has lost its ice privileges at the local recreation centre has to put together a plan for enforcing safety protocols after a beer bottle was found.
Espanola Sportsman League president James Gray admits a beer cap and can, not bottle as previously stated, were found in a garbage can following league play, so the league has been suspended for the time being. ....
