Issue fines for individuals and businesses not doing their part in the to help slow the spread of covid19, primarily not wearing their masks. And those fines that theyre wanting to implement could cost individuals and businesses primarily a pretty penny. Now, the ordinance would allow the enforcement of fines ranging from 25 to 10,000 for restaurants not following health rules. A new task force would partner with police to locate businesses found not complying with county rules and an email tip line has already been set up so neighbors can report businesses. Supervisors say while the fines could be issued, the goal is truly education. Our effort is always to intervene, to educate where we can, but then if thats not successful, we have this tool to better incentivize enforcement, adherence, and therefore result in improved Public Health consequences. One of the more drastic proposals, was not included in that allencompassing proposal. After hours of public comment, every councilmember but one who proposed a budget cut voted yes.
