Cyclone Jawad, maiden cyclone of current northeast monsoon season, has now weakened to a low pressure area. Remnants of the storm now lie over Bangladesh and adjoining South Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura. It is likely to weaken further in the next 24hr and finally get filled up in the subsequent 24hr over the same area.
Cyclone Jawad has weakened into a deep depression and today on December 5th at 5:30 it was near latitude 18.2 North and longitude 85.4 East over Northwest and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal. It will degenerate further into a depression by today afternoon and will reach near Puri.
The West Bengal government stopped ferry services on the Hooghly River and urged tourists not to visit seaside resorts, as rain lashed Kolkata and other southern parts of the state on Sunday.
