cnn s nadia romero is checking in on the situation from the world s busiest airport, atlanta s hartsfield jackson international. nadia, i was there yesterday with the canceled flight trying to fly standby. i know what that feels like for people out there. what are you hearing from passengers today? reporter: oh, i m sorry you were part of that big chunk of people we saw 1,400 flights canceled over the past couple of days. i spoke with one man who was supposed to get back to vegas, spent the night here. he had an 11-hour day after his flight was canceled three times. he finally ditched his first airline, got on a different airline flight to get back to vegas. i m glad you finally made it to your final destination. other people are happy to be at the airport because they re on their way to enjoy the holiday weekend. it s a mixed bag here. take a look at tsa, the main security checkpoint and it s moving pretty quickly. people are briskly going through, in and out of the ....

Today. as nadia laid out. we know a lot of people are facing trouble at the airports despite many experts predicting a lot of travelers the airlines seemingly are unprepared, stretched really thin, not able it s really a case of, i think, over promising and under delivering, not able to handle these crowds. why are they so unprepared for this? well, a lot of it is down to staffing issues so throughout the pandemic folks at the airlines were either furloughed or let go or offered early retirement and so they haven t yet staffed back up that s one thing when you re talking about gate agents, customer agents and support, but there s also pilots. when you re short on pilots you can t just restaff easily. it takes a lot of training to get pilots back in the air again. unfortunately, the staffing issues look like they re going to have long tail results in the space. that s what i wanted to ask ....

Information and data it s like hourly work? that s right. there are different fields, like medical tripgs, othanscription. but the transcriptions is an area that s really growing. another one, sales customer agents, live customer agents. not someone who s going to take a message and later give that to an office doctor, for example. say you call up an infomercial, you see something on the line, a product you want to try. those people who are taking those phone calls, these are people who are by and large working from home. live ops is one of the companies, one of the major companies out there that hires people on that end. and how much money can these people make? is there one you that say you re going to make so much money if you can get this at home? it s you know, by and large, these are not phenomenally well-paying jobs. you know, some of them are hourly rates. $8, $10, 15, 20 bucks an hour, kind of in that range. but you know, for people who are out of work, underemploy ....
