Levine has represented the district, which encompasses Morningside Heights, West Harlem, Washington Heights, and a section of the Upper West Side, since 2014. The New York City Council is the city’s legislative body and has 51 members, each of whom represents a district of the city. Council members are elected for a four-year term, renewable only once. Beyond their legislative powers, they are responsible for approving the city’s budget, and they focus much of their attention on land use. ....
