EnergyAustralia has cut output at its Yallourn coal power station in Victoria because of flooding, further disrupting generation on the National Electricity Market beyond the impact of the explosion and fire at the Callide generator in Queensland.
Heavy rainfall in the Gippsland region caused cracking in the wall of the diversion of a river by the generator, with additional cracking found on Tuesday, EnergyAustralia energy executive Liz Westcott advised, describing the situation as “dynamic”.
Flooding in the Yallourn area has reduced electricity output.

“Yallourn’s generation output is being maintained at an appropriate level to help conserve coal while also ensuring that demand for energy continues to be met,” Ms Westcott said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
Owner, Builder of Solar Array Fined for Polluting Massachusetts Brook April 20, 2021
A New Jersey solar energy company and utility Eversource have agreed to pay up to $310,000 in state fines to Massachusetts for allegedly violating state environmental laws that led to pollution of a brook and other protected areas.
The settlement with the state attorney general’s office alleges that, while constructing an 11.7-acre solar array in Southampton in 2018 and 2019, Eversource and CS Energy LLC violated regulations under the Wetlands Protection Act and Clean Waters Act. Eversource owns the array and CS Energy built it.
The consent decree was entered in Suffolk Superior Court earlier this month, The Daily Hampshire Gazette reported.
The company was fined $310,000 for polluting a brook and other protected areas in Massachusetts.
