Crouse-Hinds installed their first electric traffic light in Houston Texas, in 1921. The company installed this traffic light at the intersection of James and State Streets, in 1922.

Today’s obituaries: Douglas B. Gates had owned and operated Phoenix Liquor Store

Douglas Bernard Gates, 89, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Pennellville, died Thursday.
He was a 1950 graduate of North Syracuse High School and worked for many years at Crouse Hinds, according to his obituary. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He later owned and operated Phoenix Liquor Store.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5540 in Phoenix and had served as post commander, as well as the Oswego County commander. He also had served as all state commander of the District 5 VFW, according to his obituary. ....
