POLICE will start cracking down on speeding drivers in a Herefordshire town after data revealed the majority of motorists break the 30mph limit. Ross-on-Wye Town Council said its speed indicator device, which shows drivers how fast they are going, has recorded disturbing data on the volume and speed of traffic. A council spokesperson said that average speeds for 85 per cent of traffic has been above the 30mph limit, and police enforcement has started. Broad Street, Ross-on-Wye. VOTERS in Ross-on-Wye will be able to have their say in May on plans for future growth in the town. The referendum on the Ross neighbourhood development plan which had been set for April 2 has now been confirmed for May 6. The time honoured tradition of the New Year s Day arrow ceremony at Hook Head; one which goes back to 1687, will not go ahead in its usual format this year due to Covid-19 social distancing restrictions. Every year archers join An Cathaoirleach of New Ross Municipal District to fire arrows into the estuary, claiming dominion over the waters. Councillor Michael Whelan confirmed that the traditional ceremony cannot go ahead this year. Unfortunately we cannot do the ceremony as it would attract people in numbers to Hook Head. The annual sunrise tour at Hook Lighthouse also can t go ahead. The ancient tradition dates back to 1687 when the Mayor and the corporation of New Ross Town Council claimed their authority over the Tower and its waters by travelling to the point of the Hook and shooting an arrow into the sea. ....
