The two chain snatchers, Narendra and Narayana, were convicted and got seven years of jail time. A whopping 3.5kg of gold ornaments were recovered from them. Interestingly, these chain snatchers were brothers of a politician who later contested the Karnataka assembly polls.
The gang also comprised two rowdy sheeters and a former employee of the industrialist who was aware that the family would normally have a large amount of cash at home on account of their business interests.
The thief targeted PG and bachelor accommodations in Bengaluru’s Sadashivanagar area during the day, the police said. In many cases, he allegedly entered the rooms by using the keys left with the caretakers.
Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath on Wednesday hailed the central government for tackling such cases, claiming that he often go for a walk on Bengaluru streets at 11 pm without any fear of safety.
