Crestwood names former assistant fire chief as chief

It’s official The city of Crestwood has a new fire chief. The Crestwood Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a resolution at its Jan. 24 meeting to name Leo Meyer fire chief of the Crestwood Fire Department. He will take over the position from former Chief Lou Hecht, who retired. Hecht’s last month with Crestwood.

Millcreek Canyon remains closed as crews replace power poles

Millcreek Canyon will be closed for one more day as electric crews remove the power poles to be replaced for lines underground.

Two police officers, one firefighter injured in Orland Park house fire

Two Orland Park Police officers and one Orland Fire Protection District firefighter were injured Tuesday night (April 26, 2022) while responding to a house fire in the 8200 block of Legend Lane in Orland Park. The police officers were treated for smoke inhalation and the firefighter suffered minor burns, Orland Fire Protection District Chief Michael Schofield said. All were taken to the hospital for treatment and were later released.

City proposes sales tax increase for fire department

The Crestwood Board of Aldermen unanimously voted Dec. 14 to introduce a quarter-cent sales tax increase in the April 5 election to increase revenue for the city’s fire department.  The ballot measure, “Proposition 1,” would increase the city’s sales tax from one-quarter of 1 percent, or .25 percent, to one-half of 1 percent, or .5.
