Councillor asks people to show support for Dunoon Dam

The deputy chair of Rous County Council has made a plea to Northern Rivers residents to voice their support for the Dunoon Dam.
Ballina Shire councillor Sharon Cadwallader made the request via social media, asking people to email Rous County Council and show support for the project.
Cr Cadwallader is one of three Rous councillors who have tabled a rescission motion to bring the dam back into the Future Water Plan 2060.

Councillors reveal plan to revive Dunoon Dam proposal

Three Northern Rivers councillors have submitted a rescission motion to bring the proposed Dunoon Dam project back to the region s future water infrastructure plans.
Rous Councillors Robert Mustow and Sandra Humphrys from Richmond Valley Council, along with Ballina representative Sharon Cadwallader, signed the document submitted to the council.
They want to ensure the dam is off the plans only if there is scientific proof there is enough groundwater to ensure the long term viability of water supply for the region.
The document acknowledges the deep significance of the land in and around the proposed Dunoon Dam site to traditional owners and to the local community . ....

COASTAL hazards and marine erosion have become as costly to councils as fixing roads, and coastal councils are asking for extra funding.
The issue was highlighted by councils across the country, according to the interim findings of a survey by the Australia Coastal Councils Association.
Ballina councillor and ACCA chairman Sharon Cadwallader confirmed funding issues are the main concern for councillors around the country.
We know that the coastline is critical for economic reason to all coastal councils, she said.
It s like road funding, when we look at funding our roads, there is a budget for State and Federal governments that help us maintain our roads, because it s not something that councils can do, and the coastline is not different. ....
