School board votes to approve IPT's option for middle school realignment


“Nine hundred and thirteen students are going to be going to the wrong school if you select the IPT recommendation,” Liz Altschuler, a parent representing the group proposing the alternative Green+ Plan said. “How can you do that? How is that acceptable?”
“First of all, I want to thank everybody … the staff that participated, the parents that participated, (but) I do have concerns, which I have stated numerous times,” she said. “The problems with going over the interstate; the turns that are made. I still have my concerns with the distances that are having to be traveled.”
She continued: “I can’t believe that we can’t come up with something even better than the Blue Plan. That there couldn’t be a better plan that could be worked out.” ....

CCS, KCS update COVID-19 numbers for week of Jan. 25 through Jan. 31


Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus County Schools reported their updated COVID-19 numbers for the week of Jan. 25 through Jan. 31 on Monday.
KCS reported three new cases and 16 new quarantines while CCS reported 61 new cases (19 staffers and 42 students). CCS is not currently releasing quarantine numbers to the public.
Kannapolis City Schools remains in Plan C, so no students are on campus, but 743 staff members remain at work in either nutritional or administrative capacities.
Superintendent Chip Buckwell, who announced his retirement Monday after 37 years with KCS, released the numbers in his weekly Facebook video.
“As our community keeps moving towards large-scale vaccination, it is still important to continue with all the recommended prevention practices,” he said. “Getting students safely back face-to-face is #KCSEssential.” ....
