Cognizant, IBM reach out to employees in the fight against Covid-19


IT services major Cognizant launched Operation C3 Cognizant Combats Covid-19 as to help its associates in India and their communities which are impacted by the outbreak.
These efforts will be focused on three primary areas: supporting Covid care facilities, supplementing oxygen supplies to address the acute shortage, and providing access to vaccinations.
“We are immediately providing $1.5 million (approximately Rs 10 crore) through the Cognizant Foundation to operationalize response efforts with our partners across India. We’re also providing an additional $2 million (approximately Rs 15 crore) in emergency funding to Unicef in India to help address acute shortages in life-saving oxygen and deploy medical and testing supplies,” said Rajesh Nambiar, Executive Vice President and Chairman, Cognizant India, in a note to the employees. ....

No dearth of oxygen, ventilators, says official even as cases rise in district
The daily average of new COVID-19 infections has crossed the 1,300 mark since mid-April in Chittoor district, taking the positivity rate close to 25%, causing a big worry to the district medical and health administration.
By April 22, the district witnessed the second highest number of 1.06 lakh positive cases in the State, and 935 casualties. As many as 93,900 patients have recovered and there are 10,318 active cases.
The COVID Task Force in the district is fully geared to meet any emergency situation, says District Medical and Health Officer M. Penchalaiah. The district is bestowed with massive COVID care facilities. We have the services of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) at the disposal of patients. SVIM ....

In a bid to strengthen the nation s capacity to fight against the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, the government has appealed to the heads of the top 1,000 corporates (by market capitalisation) to consider converting their vacant office buildings into temporary COVID-19 case facilities, reports
Economic Times.
While acknowledging and appreciating the support of the corporates in the national effort against COVID-19, Corporate Affairs Secretary Rajesh Verma in his letter to the heads of the country s top 1,000 corporates said that the second wave requires more coordination and focused approach so as to provide immediate relief to the people. ....

Currently, there are five jumbo COVID care facilities in Mumbai- Byculla, Bandra Kurla Complex, Nesco grounds (Goregaon East), Mulund and Dahisar
The number of cases may have declined in the past one month, but the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is not letting its guard down. The BMC has no plans to shut down any of its jumbo facility in Mumbai as yet.
Currently, there are five jumbo Covid Care facilities in Mumbai- Byculla, Bandra Kurla Complex, Nesco grounds (Goregaon East), Mulund and Dahisar. The general ward at the jumbo facility at Mahalaxmi has been discontinued however the ICU and ventilation system continue to operate. ....
