Mike Hosking: Why is there no outrage about our inept, bumbling Covid-19 response? Jacinda Ardern and Ashley Bloomfield. (Photo / NZ Herald) Mike Hosking: Why is there no outrage about our inept, bumbling Covid-19 response? Thu, 27 May 2021, 8:52PM As we watch Melbourne yet again on a knife edge, we are in our own complacent smug way watching a train wreck in front of our own eyes and not realising it. 13 MIQ operations here in February and March had snap inspections. The fact we have snap inspections should be of some relief, but what they found shouldn’t. Would it surprise you to learn a lot of faults were found, a lot was below par, a lot was less than what it should be or desirable? ....

(Photo / NZ Herald) Andrew Dickens: Ministry of Health must shoulder the blame for Covid failures Mon, 19 Apr 2021, 1:35PM Listening to the blamestorm over MIQ last week I thought the universe had tipped on its axis. We find that a border security guard has not been tested since last November and that there is no system in place to ensure front line border workers are in fact getting their tests and their vaccinations. MIQ authorities have relied on individual employers and paper trails to ensure workers are complying and the PM has laid the blame fairly and squarely on the security guard involved – which has shades of the South Auckland KFC worker. ....
Mike Hosking: When it comes to the economy, none of this ends well Finance Minister Grant Robertson and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. (Photo / NZ Herald) Mike Hosking: When it comes to the economy, none of this ends well Mon, 12 Apr 2021, 3:46PM The government is lucky, as it turns out, that Covid is still front-and-centre because if it wasn’t - and it won t always be - a great deal more time would be currently spent on the economy. Kiwibank tell us the sugar-rush of spending is over. That mad dash we made post-lockdown last year to buy anything and everything is now finished. The household spending tracker was down nine percent in the March quarter - that is a massive fall. ....
