Muscat: Only one in four healthcare workers who tested positive for COVID-19 displayed symptoms for the virus, according to findings by Omani researcher Dr Amal Al Shibli at Sultan Qaboos University.
Al Shibli and her team conducted a study on 583 healthcare workers at SQU Hospital to identify the causes behind asymptomatic infection of the disease, by collecting the social, demographic, and clinical backgrounds of those who did not display any symptoms, but still tested positive. ....

More than 50% of Arab youth affected by COVID-related depression: SQU study

Muscat: More than 50 per cent of youth in six Arab countries suffer from depression brought about by the impact of COVID-19 on their lives, a new survey conducted by Sultan Qaboos University has revealed.
The study, conducted by Dr Omar Al Omari, with support from the COVID-19 Research Programme of The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, surveyed 1,057 youth across six countries.
155 participants from Oman, 121 from Saudi Arabia, 332 from Jordan, 117 from Iraq, 147 the United Arab Emirates, and 182 from Egypt took part in the survey. ....

Online therapy helpful in treating anxieties linked to COVID-19: Study

The research project assessed the efficacy of therapist guided e-therapy versus self-help email delivered therapy.
Muscat: Counselling services offered during the COVID-19 pandemic are helping people deal with the anxieties, a new study shows.
Conducted by a research team headed by Dr Hamed Al Sinawi, a senior consultant in old age psychiatry at Sultan Qaboos University, the study provides preliminary evidence to support the effectiveness of online therapy to reduce anxiety and depression that originate from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The study also shows that therapy provided by trained counsellors has a better impact than self-administered therapy. ....
