With cases rising, public health measures tightened in parts of Chaudiere-Appalaches


MONTREAL
Public health restrictions are getting tighter in parts of Quebec s Chaudiere-Appalaches region.
With COVID-19 case counts rising significantly, the province s Health Ministry announced on Sunday new measures that will come into effect at 8 p.m. on Monday in five of the region s nine municipalities.
The targetted sectors are Beauce-Sartigan, Bellechasse, Les Etchemins, La Nouvelle-Beauce and Robert Cliche.
The City of Levis has been under the more restrictive measures, which will remain in place until at least April 12.
Among the new measures are a tightening of the curfew, which will go into effect from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Primary and secondary schools students will return to online learning and cinemas, theatres, museums, non-essential shops and restaurant dining rooms will be closed. ....

One person arrested after six cars damaged by heavy objects in West Island


 
MONTREAL
One person was arrested after six vehicles were damaged by large rocks or cinder blocks in the West Island on Saturday.
On Sunday, Montreal police said they had arrested a 24-year-old male. The incident happened a day earlier near Aumais St. and Lirette in Pierrefonds.
Police said the suspect was released on a promise to appear in court and that charges, if any, would be decided by the province s director of criminal and penal prosecutions.
Police said they are reaching out to the owners of the damaged vehicles.

Two men say altercation in condo garage was fuelled by racism

A pair of Montrealers are thinking over their legal options after an altercation in a Laval-des-Rapides condo building s garage that they say was fueled by racism.
Jamol Ross said he was in the garage with a friend who owns a unit in the building at the time. The pair were washing a car when went to sit outside for a few minutes. When they returned, they were confronted by two men and a woman who claimed to be part of the condo board.
They allege that one of the three was waiving a metal pipe. Part of the incident was caught on video, in which one of the men demanded Ross and his friend speak French. The other man then called police. ....

Active coronavirus cases exceed 10,000 in Quebec with 1,252 new infections recorded


Health-care professionals in the province analyzed 24,065 samples on April 3.
The new numbers bring the overall total number of infections since the start of the pandemic in Quebec to 317,364.
Of those who tested positive, 296,396 are reported to have recovered, an increase of 943 from Sunday.
REGIONAL BREAKDOWN
Regions with triple digit new cases include Montreal (348 new, 117,599 total), Quebec City (243 new, 25, 434) and Monteregie (129 new, 44, 842).
Bas-Saint-Laurent, Montreal, the Laurentides and Monteregie all recorded one new death in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in those regions are, respectively, 32, 4,630, 488, and 1,513. 
On Monday, the health minister said Montreal continues to be placed under pressure due to the health crisis and that situation in Quebec s hospitals is worrying. ....
