Arkansas State begins national search for new athletic director

Photo: Courtesy Arkansas State University Arkansas State University Chancellor Dr. Kelly Damphousse announced Tuesday that a national search for the Red Wolves’ 12th athletics director has begun after former Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Terry Mohajir was appointed the Athletics Director at the University of Central Florida. “When Beth and I came to campus for my interview as chancellor, our first stop that day was with Terry Mohajir,” said Damphousse. “We left that meeting inspired by Terry’s vision for A-State Athletics and for the university as a whole. We knew immediately that he has incredible passion for his alma mater and for the success of his staff and his student-athletes, and that has continued to play out during our time together at A-State.

Arkansas State names Harley defensive coordinator, assistant head coach

Image: Courtesy Arkansas State University JONESBORO, Ark. – Arkansas State head football coach Butch Jones announced Friday Rob Harley has been named the Red Wolves’ assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. Harley comes to A-State after spending the last six seasons as linebackers coach at Pitt, while also serving as the Panthers’ recruiting coordinator the last four years. “We are excited to welcome Coach Harley, his wife Danielle and two sons, Paxton and Nash, into the Arkansas State football family,” said Jones. “Coach Harley has a national reputation as one of the brightest defensive minds in college football. He is an individual that teaches the details and fundamentals of what it takes to play winning football. Coach Harley also is an individual who is passionate and will be a great role model to our players and recruits.”

Offensive Player of the Year Adams Jr among 7 A-State players named All-SBC

Image: Courtesy Arkansas State University JONESBORO, Ark. – Arkansas State senior wide receiver Jonathan Adams Jr. was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year on Monday and was one of seven Red Wolves, including a pair of first-team selections, earning all-conference recognition. Joining Adams as a First Team All-Sun Belt pick for A-State was senior linebacker Justin Rice, while senior defensive lineman Forrest Merrill was a second-team choice. Representing the Red Wolves as honorable-mention selections were sophomore tight end/defensive end T.W. Ayers, junior quarterback Logan Bonner, senior wide receiver Brandon Bowling and sophomore quarterback Layne Hatcher.
