Skylar Mack, an 18-year-old college student from Georgia who was imprisoned after breaking the strict 14-day quarantine rule in the Cayman Islands, has received a reduced sentence.
The Cayman Islands court heard her appeal on December 22 and lowered her sentence from four months to two months. ....

Skylar Mack and Vanjae Ramgeet – the couple whose quarantine breach case has garnered international headlines – had their sentences reduced from four months to two months in jail.
Both were originally ordered to perform 40 hours of community service and pay $2,600 to the Cayman Islands government. That amount is the standard each person must pay to stay at a government-approved quarantine facility. ....

The grandmother of a Georgia college student is begging officials to release her teenage granddaughter after she was sentenced to four months in prison for violating Cayman Islands coronavirus restrictions.
Jeanne Mack, the grandmother of Skylar Mack, an 18-year-old student at Mercer University, told NBC’s
Today show on Monday that the family is pleading for her release. The elder Mack said she even wrote a letter to President Trump asking her for help with the situation.
“She cries, she wants to come home,” Jeanne Mack said. “She knows she made a mistake. She owns up to that, but she s pretty hysterical right now.” ....

The grandmother of a Georgia college student who was jailed in the Cayman Islands for failing to follow coronavirus quarantine guidelines told Fox News on Monday that she has written to President Trump seeking the U.S. government s help in the case.
Jeanne Mack made the remark ahead of an appeals court hearing Tuesday for Mercer University student Skylar Mack and her boyfriend, Cayman Islands-based competitive jet-skier Vanjae Ramgeet, who each have received four-month sentences.  
She’s terrified. She called me last night, she couldn’t sleep, Jeanne Mack told Fox News when asked about the hearing.   ....
