FCHS Assistant Principal Bobby Wells says the school is planning to move away from the block schedule used for classes this past year, going back to a normal 8-3 format. He also says the school hopes to be completely maskless next year, but it is waiting to see where the CDC, IDPH, and state Board of Education guide them in the coming months. A good crowd was on hand for Memorial Day services yesterday in the Veterans Section of Maple Hill Cemetery. Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith was the speaker for the event, and American Legion Post 176 Commander Tom Seaman and VFW Post 4535 Commander Ron Van Buskirk laid the wreath on the Monument of the Unknown Soldier

FCHS had its final days for students and teachers last week, and it has transitioned to summer hours of 7 to 4 Mondays through Thursdays. The building will be closed on Fridays, but the maintenance department will continue working, in part due to HVAC installation in the east gym. FCHS says the work should be finished by the beginning of the school year. Wayne County Mobile Home tax bills are due July 1st. The Wayne County Courthouse is closed today, but bills may be payed there when open, though COVID-19 precautions will be in effect. People can also pay by mail or use the drop box on the west side of the courthouse. Anyone paying remotely should put their name and phone number on their envelopes, and anyone with questions can call Treasurer Donna Masterson at 842-5087. As of yesterday afternoon, per dph.illinois.gov, Wayne County had administered 8,629 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 26.18 percent of its population was fully vaccinated.
