Montgomery County awaits stimulus funds before approving projects

Montgomery County budget approvals for a new north Clarksville public library branch and improvements to Stokes Field headline a list of projects on hold, pending word on an anticipated $40.5 million in federal stimulus funding.
In all, the county has identified 16 capital projects this springtime budget preparation season that could be funded with federal stimulus money at least in part rather than with county taxpayer dollars.
But the unknownsin play with stimulus payout have placed projects on hold.
What we think we know today is the amount that we will receive, said County Mayor Jim Durrett. It will be in two payments and there is a deadline on when the money must be spent. ....

Hamilton County has just passed the 50,000-doses mark in distributing the COVID vaccine which deserves the highest praise for our Health Department workers, our Emergency Management teams and County Mayor Jim Coppinger. That’s big news indeed, especially when you consider the huge majority of the two-part injections were primarily centered on those 70 years old and up.
But I worry about a bigger problem. Of the doses given to date in Hamilton County, 65% of those administered the life-saving vaccine are white, 8% are black, and 2% are Hispanic. From all I have been able to learn, the coronavirus doesn’t use the same playbook. ....

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) announced the recipients of its 2020 Local Government Awards on Dec. 8, which honors excellence in public service across Middle Tennessee.
The Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department was recognized for excellence in the local government category of recreation and youth engagement for the Rotary Field of Dreams ‐ Civitan Park Expansion.
Montgomery County Parks and Recreation was selected for the recreation and youth engagement award because of the commitment made by Montgomery County Government, the Community Health Foundation, and the Clarksville Rotary Clubs to provide kids with special needs a place they could call their own.
