the devastation in very direct terms. the impacts of this storm are historic and the damage that was done has been historic and this is just off initial assessments. take a look at fort myers, close to where ian made landfall. you see the downed trees and the boats tossed around like toys. storm surges as high as 7 to 10 feet swept through surrounding areas making streets look more like oceans. ian has left more than 2.5 million floridians without power. folks who were in shelters are leaving to see if they even have a home to return to. the focus is now on the people who did not evacuate. finding a lot of the roads are impassable. we have a lot of power lines down, a lot of flooding going on. i don t want to speculate on fatalities, but we have had some reports being called into us in reference to potential bodies being found. right now the storm is moving eastward through florida with the carolinas and georgia in its sights with flash flooding a major concern. ....

circuit didn t have the jurisdiction to act when it did. and now they want the supreme court to step in. notably, this request from trump s team goes directly to justice clarence thomas. but that is actually because he oversees all petitions that come in from the 11th circuit. it is likely here that justice thomas will refer this to the full court to decide this issue. but anderson, we have seen trump appeal to the supreme court several times in the next few years, with little success. it was just earlier this year that the justices allowed the january 6th select committee to gain access to the white house record, notably justice thomas dissented from that. and back in 2020, they ruled that they could not block his financial documents from prosecutors in new york. so this was filed as an emergency order, the justices could potentially rule pretty quickly after the doj response to this early next week on tuesday. what does it mean for the justice departments investigat ....

even. all of the flooding blocking this major highway behind me. we did what we had to do. i wouldn t have changed anything. i lost my boat, everything i had, but saved three guys, it s worth it. can we get some help around here? would that be too much to ask? live from london, this is cnn newsroom with max foster. it is monday october 3rd, 9:00 a.m. in london, 4:00 a.m. on the east coast. five days after hurricane ian slammed into florida. at least 76 people have lost their lives. and entire communes have been wiped out. in some of the worst hit areas, workers have not only trying to find signs of life beneath the rubble, they re helping those who have lost their entire livel livelihoods. the loss is so great places like fort myers may never return to what they were. there are a lot of people with no homes to return to now or in the future. they ll be eligible for individual assistance. we re still in the search and recovery assistance. and then begins ....
