February 12, 2021 County votes to oppose state civil rights bill Written by Geoffrey Plant on February 12, 2021 Grant County commissioners on Thursday weighed in on a controversial piece of legislation making its way through the Roundhouse in Santa Fe: the N.M. Civil Rights Act. Over the course of a three-hour meeting, commissioners approved several resolutions authorizing Colonias infrastructure grant applications for a preliminary engineering report for Silver Acres and two road projects, one in Arenas Valley and the other in North Hurley. They also approved an agreement that ensures the county’s continued participation in the DWI prevention program, as well as a services agreement with the Center for Health Innovation, which operates a career training program intended to motivate primary health care providers to practice in rural Grant County. ....
Coronavirus cluster closes county building Written by Geoffrey Plant on February 3, 2021 The Grant County Administration Building will be closed to staff and the public today due to an outbreak of coronavirus infections among workers. A spokesperson said the building will reopen for business Thursday, Feb. 4, at 8 a.m. after undergoing a deep cleaning and sanitization, but will remain closed to the public except for visits by appointment in certain departments. Grant County Manager Charlene Webb told the Daily Press that four employees reported receiving positive coronavirus test results Tuesday, resulting in the closure of the entire building, with the exception of the sheriff’s office. ....
